About the Museum of History

The National Museum of History

The museum is charged with the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of historical artifacts for public benefit. Exhibits illustrating the history of Seychelles and to display objects of ethnological interest that exemplify the traditions and modes of life in times gone past. The museums main role is to provide awareness of Seychelles history and cultural heritage amongst our population in particular the youth of Seychelles. The Museum also houses a Museum shop and Conference Room.

 

The museum is divided into galleries and a temporary exhibition hall. Galleries are:

 

  • Early discovery to Crown colony (915-1903)

 

  • Crown colony to Independence (1903-1976)

 

 

  • Nationhood (1976-2018)

 

  • Gift of State (Presidential gifts of state)

 

 

  • Creole Culture (Traditional Life)
